I have a feeling that there is a lump in my throat. It is constantly there and !

Question:

I have a feeling that there is a lump in my throat. It is constantly there and I cannot swallow any food.?

I have had strep throat twice this year and a week ago I got another sore throat. The doc says she doesn't think it is strep this time. The sore throat pain is starting to subside but the lump feeling is worse. If I try to eat it feels like I am swallowing boulders - very painful. Then my throat is sore for another hour or so after. My tonsils are somewhat swollen but I do not see any pus sacs on them. I can drink liquids fine. I feel like I want to burp all the time and when I force the burp it feels better for a second or too, but I just can't eat anything. I even tried soft spaghetti and mashed potatoes. Still hurt. Today is day 6 with almost no food. I am taking Advil and Tylenol and it makes the feeling of the lump go away until I try to eat. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this?

Answers:

I have had something similar happen to me before, but for me it felt like my throat had a lump in it and was burning. I figured out that it was acid reflux. I am not sure what it came from or even how i got rid of it, but it only happened when i was doing something active after eating. You might have a much more serious problem than that and as someone else was saying, it might be stomach acids but the difference between what happened with me and what is happening with you is that the acid isnt really going back down. You might want to try medicine for acid reflux. but also, I have heard of people feeling a lump in there throat and have had throat cancer or just a cyst(which can turn into cancer). So i suggest you try strong medicine for acid reflux and if that doesnt give you any relief, see a doctor.

by the way, its not good for you at all to have aspirin in your body without any food as it can cause serious problems in your stomach. So you need to stop taking that.

Also, one time I had strep throat and tonsilitus at the same time and it felt like i was trying to swallow a whole apple when i was eating applesauce, and i went to the doctor and the medicine they gave me took care of it in under 12 hours. And they also gave me vicidin for the pain and that really helped me be able to actually eat before the inflammation go down.

Hope this helps!
