Is there a qualitative difference between flaxseed oil and fish oil as a source !

Question:

Is there a qualitative difference between flaxseed oil and fish oil as a source of omega 3?

Answers:

There is an enormous difference that is not well known and not publicised much either.

Flaxseed oil contains the omega 3 ALA (alpha linolenic acid) of which only about 5 to 10% is metabilised to the omega 3 DHA which provides all the omega 3 health benefits.

In other words flaxseed oil contains the wrong omega 3. The same applies to soybeans, soy milk and walnuts.

Fish oil contains DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in the proportions of two parts of DHA to three parts of EPA and it is the omega 3 DHA that provides all the health benefits.

A Yahoo search for "omega 3" + ALA + EPA + DHA will tell you much more.
