Controlled pain med refills?!

Question:

Controlled pain med refills?

I get hydrocodone 10/325 for my back pain, but my ortho will only prescribe a second bottle once between visits. He says this is for insurance reasons. Nothing is really different, so I dont see the need for a visit, I just want the pills until my back stops hurting which shouldnt be too much longer.

So If I see him on the first of the month, i can get one, maybe two more prescriptions but then I have to come in for a visit just to get the drugs. What do you think is the reason?

Answers:

The doctor just wants to make sure that you are not getting addicted to the perscription. Some people just say well they need a nother perscription because people can get addicted to pain killers. For the doctor's sake it gives him an evaluation of how you are doing. When you go for a visit, the doctor needs to see how you are doing in person maybe do a few exercises or something to see how the pain is, how much movement you have and so on. It is for you and the doctor and for the insurance. When you go to the doctor, he may want to lower the milligrams in the pills or the doseage. Some times the doctors ask for you to come in for a perscription and you come out with a new perscription for the same thing but with a lower doseage and a lower doseage of milligrams. As the doctor lowers the doseage, the less you will need perscription drugs and the less you will be addicted to them.
