What kind of pain meds (aspirin or tylenol) is safe to give my german shepherd d!

Question:

What kind of pain meds (aspirin or tylenol) is safe to give my german shepherd dog?

Answers:

Tylenol CANNOT be given to your dog. You can use aspirin (at meal time to reduce stomach irritation). Your shepard is probably around 80 - 90 pounds?? So 1 to 1/4 tablets would be the dose (asprin tablets are 325 mg - the dose is 5 mg per pound). If you are asking because your shepard has pain from a chronic problem then aspirin is not the answer as it should be used sparingly - no more than 2 doses a day for a short period - anything beyond that you should consult your vet. I give mine Metacam for his hip pain. It's a NSAID (like advil) for animals and works quite well. Metacam is available by prescription through your vet. Hope he/she feels better!
