What is the best way to protect a bad knee?!

Question:

What is the best way to protect a bad knee?

Last time I asked this people thought I was obese or it was just temp. When I was 11yrs got hit by a car, it sounds a lot worse then it was. The car stoped, I was riding across the street, and the car hit me probably at about 5mph. I was on my bike. Anyways, the point is that the side the car hit me is the side I have the bad knee. I am 16 yrs old and I feel it when I play sports (V football, JV basketball, and V track). Its not bad to the point where I cannot walk on it or run with it. But I can feel it and I know its bad thing, because I feel the pain there. I can deal with it right now but when I get older, I dont want it to get worse. -More details: When I sit in the movie theater or sit for a long time, that knee starts to hurt and I have to stretch it-It goes away after I walk on it. When I stop, lets say a mile run, then walk and then run again, it starts to hurt and I start kind of limping.I feel it everyday, because I am active alot. Its right aroundthe n-cap. Any doctor advice

Answers:

I would say that you have patella femoral syndrome. It may not have been caused by the accident because it is caused by tightness of you lateral side and laxticity on the inside. It results in your patella being pulled out of place causing pain. You can buy a special knee brace which will encourage it into the right place. If that does not work I would rec commend seeing a doctor just to make sure it is nothing more serious. If he agrees that it is PFS than you can try attending physiotherapy where they will try stretching, strengthening, and taping. Good luck I hope this helps you.
