Got my tonsils out 2 days ago and my throat is killing me help!?!

Question: Got my tonsils out 2 days ago and my throat is killing me help!?
Ok so I am taking stuff that I gargle that is suppose to numb my throat but that doesn't really work. Also, tylonol extra strength which also don't really seem to be helping.

I'm at the point where I can't even swallow my own spit let alone water to keep my throat moist.
And I am so so hungry but can not come to swallow a thing! The smell of food is killing me lol. What can I do!? It hurts so much, can't eat, can't swallow, and can't walk.

WHAT TO DO? PLEASE HELP!

You just had surgery and it takes a bit to heal. Everyone heals differently; give it time. If there were complications prior to the surgery, such as a severe infection, it could take a little longer for things to settle down. It's hard to know what your pain tolerance is, so please take this advise as it suits you. The more you swallow (and it hurts a lot at first), the better you will feel. It's good to do cool drinks like ice water, cold juices, Kool-aid, Gatorade or, the best yet, popsicles (let them melt in your mouth). Jello-like food would be good for you to swallow too. This will bring about soothing. What is important to avoid is the use of straws and anything requiring a sucking action (that's why you chew down the popsicle, not suck it). This will pull on the sutured area and slow the healing process. Also avoid mucus-forming foods such as dairy (milk, cheese, cottage cheese, etc.) and chocolate. This will create a thickening in your saliva and make it more difficult to swallow. Remember it is normal to have some pain after surgery. It will get better with each day. If it does not, call your doctor.

I am a nurse and I can remember quite well having my tonsils removed!

days 2 to 7 are the worse it will get better. you should have gotten pain killers which will help a lot. even though it hurts drinking water helps a lot. the longer you gargle and hold that stuff in your mouth the better it will numb it. put an ice pack under your throat. call and get pain pills if you dont have them.

You should contact your doctor. Some pain is to be expected but it shouldn't be that extreme and since it is you may need something stronger to take the edge off.
