Answers:

I suspect olecranon bursitis , a.k.a. student's elbow. Imagine sitting in front of a desk and resting your elbow on the desk with your head resting on your hand. That area of the elbow that gets frequently irritated while in this position, hence student's elbow.

Definitely consider anti-inflammatory and icing. I know it sounds painful but the icing will help reduce the swelling. Initial 5 minutes of icing will cause burning pain, followed by aching and then numbness. Try to do that for at least 15 minutes. The best benefit of icing is after the removal of the ice. There will be a surge of blood flow in the area causing an increase circulation, of course, and will help hasten the removal of metabolites that cause inflammation.

I definitely would recommend seeking medical help from a sports medicine doctor to get prescription for anti-inflammatory meds if symptoms persist.

Also, try using an elbow brace during your athletic activities. It helps translate the pull of muscles (the triceps, I suspect) away from the elbow area.

Hope this helps.
