What should I do prior to donating blood?!
Question:
What should I do prior to donating blood?
Particularly concerning blood iron levels. Blood donation is in about three hours and I want my blood to be perfect :)
Should I eat something? Spinach? Should I drink some water or avoid it like the in-laws? :D
Answers:
I took hematology and let me tell you, if you're a male, you're in almost no danger of having iron anemic blood. In fact, as a male gets to be in his 40's it would be best to donate blood as much as he can so he can cut his risk of getting heart diesase. See, men can go weeks without eating ANY iron before he becomes anemic but females have to eat iron EVERY DAY or else we get anemic. Why? We lose blood every month. So if you're a male, don't worry about it. Females, eat that steak.
