Jaw pain after exercise?!

Question:

Jaw pain after exercise?

I workout almost every day, and after I have unbearable jaw pain. I looked it up on the internet and read it could be due to a heart attack but I'm too young for a heart attack..?

Is this true?

Answers:

You are most likely clenching your teeth and/or tightening your jaw/neck muscles while exercising. Pay close attention next time you work out - making sure to keep your face/jaw relaxed using proper breathing techniques and focusing your attention on using only the muscles you are working on. Your jaw maybe easily irritated due to clenching/grinding teeth during sleep, tense neck muscles, any abnormalities in your teeth/bite, etc. so clenching while you work out sends the jaw muscle into spasm. If you continue to have problems even while taking care to not clench when working out see your dentist - they can make a mouth guard for sleeping to allow the tm joint to relax.
