Help, Cat has puncture wounds that now have larva coming out of them?

Gross, I know. My mom has a 3 month old kitten that had puncture wounds on her when we got back from vacation. We assumed that another cat or another animal got ahold of her and that's why she got these wounds. After a week of doctoring them. My mom noticed they were extremely swollen and she figured there was puss in them, so she tried to push the puss out of them to get them to heal up, but a larva of some sort of bug popped out. It wasn't maggots, but bigger and only one per each puncture wound. Anyone know what this comes from?

These puncture wounds are not puncture wounds, rather they are the skin infestation of bot fly larvae. Bot flys usually infect the skin of rabbits, squirrels, mice, etc.. but can on occassion infect dogs and cats. The bot fly is a large bee-like fly that does not sting or bite. The female bot fly lays her eggs on stones or vegetation and other animals become infested when they brush against the eggs. The eggs attach to the fur and then hatch in response to the body heat from this host. The larvae migrate to subcutaneous locations (under the skin) and develop and breath through a breathing pore (what may appear to be a head of a pimple almost). They emerge from the skin after approximately 30 days. This bot fly larvae infestation can often be mistaken for an abscess caused by a pucture wound. The best treatment is to take the animal to a vet and have the larvae surgically removed. Squeezing the lesion should NOT be done as it can rupture the larvae and lead to infection and even anaphylaxis shock. Your cat should be examined by a vet and any remaining lumps should be cleaned and examined to ensure no remaining pieces of larvae left in each lesion. The vet may start her on an antibiotic as a profilactic measure to prevent any infection from these lesions and the home removal method. She should be fine though after treatment!
