What's wrong with my arm??!!? Broken?!

Question: What's wrong with my arm??!!? Broken?
Ok I fell down my stairs and my arm got caught in the metal railing. Right away my arm got swollen and kinda bruised in one spot, where it got caught. Here are my symptoms right now

*Swelling
*Little bit of bruising
*Golfball sized bump where my arm got caught
*I can move my wrist but hurts badly
*Can't bump or touch where my arm got caught
*Red where arm got caught

I don't think I could sprain the middle of my lower arm so it's not sprained. Also my mom or dad won't even care what I did and forced me to hit the bump on the table!

Do you think it's broke or bruised bone?

What should I do?

If I need to goto the ER my parents wont take me.

Answers:

First, I'm no doctor, so I can't say for sure, especially without seeing it. But if you are experiencing symptoms like this and you can barely move your wrist or touch the wound without pain, then you need to go to the hospital. If your parents seriously will not take you, then call 911 yourself, and while you're at it call Child Services because your injury sounds pretty serious and needs to be looked at.

Chances are it is just a severe bruise and ice will help you.Broken arms hurt, very badly so i doubt its that.If it keeps hurting then yeah,i would go to the doctor. There the only ones that are going to be able to tell you what it is

broke your arm huh? maybe you should start using your other hand during "happy time"

since your parents won't take you to the ER try to ice it

apply ice/cold thing on the area for around 1 hour to 2 hours.

Only an X-ray could really prove if your bone got broken or not, unfortunately. However, in most cases, when a bone break you can't move the articulation after it (for example, you wouldn't be able to move your fingers or turn your wrist). Where exactly have you hit your arm? next to your elbow, wrist...?

The swelling, pain, reddening of the area (plus a slight hottening) are signals of inflammation, wich is pretty much expected. When you hit your arm, you damaged subcutaneous tissue, such as muscles. To start regeneration, you body first have to "clean everything up", thus it swells the area and redirect more blood to the area (area gets red), so your macrophages can "eat" those dead cells.

Probably the area will then get a bluish/dark color, and then get yellowish, wich is expected. You can put some ice over it for some time, or take antiinflammation medications, such as Nibesulid, wich also acts as antitermic and analgesic.

However, if the pain lasts too much, go see a doctor, with your parents or without them.
