What does it mean when your vein rolls when giving blood???!

Question:

What does it mean when your vein rolls when giving blood???

I was just having blood drawn and she poked my right arm and couldnt get blood and she said my vein just rolled over and she said it was weird. She took it from my left arm and it went fine. Anyway, should I be worried? Are your veins supposed to "roll"? I've had blood taken a hundred times before and I've never had that happen.

Answers:

It's okay. Mine do it, most people's do at some point. It just means that once the needle is under the skin, the vein kind of rolls away from it before it can stick into the vein. I think it can happen more if the lab tech. is too slow, like if she's too cautious and slow, she doesn't get the needle right into the vein.
