Playing Soccer, I heard a pop and felt some pain on the front of my left hip.?!

Question:

Playing Soccer, I heard a pop and felt some pain on the front of my left hip.?

The pain (not really pain) has moved into my quad which is now numb and feels inflamed. I'm not sure if i should go see a doctor. I have a hunch there might be some internal bleeding, but since I'm still alive, it should subside, right.? Any ideas other than "Go see a doctor you idiot" would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Answers:

You either have a strain or tear in your rectus femoris muscle (one of the muscles that make up the quad). You dont need to see a doctor. What you should do is take an over the counter anti-inflammatory (advil, aleve, etc) as directed on the bottle, put an ice bag directly on the skin of the injured area for 15 mins (3-4 times a day) and take it easy with athletics for 3-4 wks. Also in a day or 2 start some gentle stretching of your quad 3-4 times a day for 30 seconds. If you do all this and things dont get better some in 5-7 days then go see an orthopedic doctor.
