Suture / Stitches Infection?

I had surgery on June 8th. I have an 8 inch incision and 20 stitches. I havent really had any issues, but the past few days it has been really red around the stitches and there is a little pus coming from the incision. There has also been a little more discomfort than normal. Is this a normal part of the healing process? I do not have a fever so I do suspect an infection, but I havent had stitches in over 10 yrs.

They come out in 3 days at my post op. I can't clean them with soap or water on orders of my doctor.

Thanks for all the answers. It wasnt an infection; just a slight "reaction" to the stitches.

call your doc. sounds like the start of an infection.
