Laceration question?!

Question:

Laceration question?

I have this cut or small laceration on my leg. Yes. I did it to myself purposely. No. I'm not crazy and Yes. I am recieveing help for my s.i. But, anyways, it's small about an inch long, it doesn't gape or anything, quite frankly, it closed nicely. BUT, about a quarter of a centemetre all around the wound is deep purple and dark red. I don't think it's infected because I sanitized my leg before and after the cut with rubbing alcohol, and after I cleaned it up, I put some triple anti-biotic on it and stuck a bandage over it. Any ways, when I went to go clean it today I noticed this discoloration and was wonder what it is. Thanks.

Answers:

Most lacs will develop bruising around the edges from blood loss. If the lac is very deep it could still be bleeding on the inside due to cut muscles, etc and can become septic even with cleaning it with alcohol. Sometimes a lac will heal at the skin level, but not underneath and will be well decayed before opening or even pain is noticed.
Good luck on the therapy.
