Doctors? 1yo nephew got into D-Con Mouse Prufe II and ate some!!! I called pois!

Question:

Doctors? 1yo nephew got into D-Con Mouse Prufe II and ate some!!! I called poison control & they said to wait

& see what happens but I'm freaking out!! My sister was here w/ him & I forgot we even had it out. He was sitting 5 ft away from us playing in the floor w/ his cars & my husband had stuck a box of it behind a table in our living room (right next to where he was playing w/ it) but I didn't know it & he ate some of it now I feel so bad! What can this do to him? PC said to wait 3 days & see what happens, maybe nothing will but something could and I am wondering what could happen to him?! On the box it says could be fatal. He weighs 19 lbs & there was 1/2 a box gone ( I don't know how much the mouse could have ate)! What do I do?!

Answers:

I'll be up-front with you (and PLEASE take my advice as a health care professional!) -- Take him to the E.R right away for further evaluation by a physician!

Poisoning or drinking harmful fluids is not something to play with! Waiting three days will be too far long of a time period to wait, and most likely (in all honesty) it may be a bit too late.

If you notice his lips begin to get red, his breathe smells very off, redness/flushed in the facial area or he begins to vomit, become sleepy or confused... activate the EMS system.

Be sure to keep a close eye on him and do NOT induce vomiting! The health care professionals will take care of that if need be.

I would call Poison Control again ((800) 222-1222)) and let them know the instructions given by the previous agent you spoke with! That is insane and is absoulutely invalid.
