Answers:

This is definitely something you want to see a doctor about. It is probably a symptom of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) or what is also commonly called "acid reflux". If you leave this untreated with either regular use of antacids or medications, the lower esophageal wall can be become very inflamed, and the condition can worsen and even become cancerous. Diet is also an important consideration. Typically foods such as coffee, tea, chocolate, alcohol, mint, spicy foods, tomatoes, and high fat content foods can be a problem. But if you have the heartburn regardless of what you eat, you should consult a doctor about - preferrably a gastroenterologist.
