Epigastric hernia...any info please?!

Question:

Epigastric hernia...any info please?

Hello all, I took my 1 year old daughter to the pediactric sergon today and he said she has a epigastric hernia. He said to leave it alone for now but when she is 7 or 8 it will need to be removed. I just would like to hear from people who have had this problem or know somebody who has had this problem. I checked all the health sites so I am just looking for some everyday people advise. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me!

Yes it is strange I look it up also and I do not get the answer I am looking for...I was wondering what does your 28 month olds look like? I also get nervous thinking the doctor does not know what he is talking about

Answers:

Interesting . . . my son (28 months) just had a consult with surgeon yesterday for an epigastric hernia. We were told that surgery is optional, and entirely up to us. With no surgery, he may never have an issue, or the hernia could become "strangulated" and extremely painful and would require immediate surgery at that time. I'm searching, but can find no statistical info on likelihood of future problems if we do not opt for surgery. I hate to put him under general anaesthesia for something that may never be a problem . . .

We were told that if we do want to do repair, the advantage to doing it this young is that he won't remember it. I've read that for adults it can be done under local anaesthesia, so perhaps that's an advantage of waiting.

I would also love to hear from people who have been -there-done-that . . .
