Whats the best thing about physican assisting?

PA's have just as much responsibility for call coverage as Physicians. They generally aren't responsible for covering overhead costs of a practice because they are employees of the Physician. The other side of the coin is the fact that they don't get paid as much, but they still get paid well. Their malpractice insurance isn't quite as expensive. The intellectual satisfaction of being able to diagnose and treat patients is high. The fact that they don't have to attend school for quite as long, but are still very well trained and very competent is a plus. I've worked with more than one doctor who said that if s/he had it to do all over again s/he would be a PA instead. The bottom line, however, is that the Doctors are still the ones ultimately in charge. If a PA makes a mistake and is liable, the supervising physician is liable as well.
