How can I lessen the cramps and chills resulting from my moms dnc/nova procedure for her endometrial polyp?
My mom had the dnc+nova procedure done this morning and now feels intense cramps and is breaking out in a sweat and looks really pale. How can I alleviate her pain?

Answers:

I am surprised that her doctor didn't write a prescription for some kind of pain relief or make a suggestion in a pre-surgery consultation, given that pain might result from such a procedure. When my endometrial polyps were removed, I took a couple of ibuprofen 200mg (Advil) for pain maybe twice a day and, despite the light bleeding that accompanied the procedure for a few days following, didn't feel pain, per se. The breaking out in a sweat and looking pale thing was something I associated with just the severe cramping I used to get during my period – which was why I had the polyps taken out in the first place. So, they could be pain related and, therefore, treating the pain would take care of those things too.

But definitely call the doctor and see; a phone call shouldn't cost anything and is a normal part of followup after a surgical procedure, if you have any questions about your mother's condition. For example, if the chills are from a septic infection, the doctor needs to get a "heads up" quickly enough to treat it. Septicemia is a leading cause of death for women in the U.S.

Besides, if you live in the U.S., you're paying through the nose for this surgery, insurance or not. Get your money's worth – call the doctor! :)

I hope your mom starts feeling better soon.
