Gaping cut... should I wake the rents?!

Question:

Gaping cut... should I wake the rents?

Alright well... my mom found out about my self injury and whatever a few days ago... she made me promise to never do it again. But I did.. it was so surreal, I think I went into shock and everything, I was shaking and I couldn't breath right and I almost passed out but now I'm fine. I was like a psycho talking to myself and everything. But now... the cuts... one especially.. is like deepish and gaping open. Like about half the width of my pinky nail. Its not neccesarily bleeding a lot anymore, but when they were fresh the blood was like pouring out. But I bandaged it up and put neosporin on and everything but I'm just concerned whether I need stitches or not. But I really really don't want to tell my mom.. it will be just... you know, bad. And plus its like almost 1 am so there sleeping and stuff but what do you think?

Answers:

generally speaking, you do need stitches if a cut is constantly bleeding when first cut , or if it is a centimeter or more. If its not bleeding anymore, than you probably don't need urgent care, or hospitals. However, when you leave a large cut it does reach a point where it can not (or no longer needs) stitching. If your worried about your mom, and its not bleeding constantly anymore, i dont think you should wake her it can most likely hold until morning. In the morning change the bandage. If there is a lot of blood on the bandaging, my guess you need stitches, tell your mom and say you learned your lesson that this is serious and life threatening and she might not be as upset when she gives you her advise on weather or not you do infact need stitches. Hope this helps.
