Pain in right shoulder after gallbladder removal?!

Question: Pain in right shoulder after gallbladder removal?
I had my gallbladder removed 4 days ago, and have experienced some uncomfortable gas, but not much. Tonight I was woken up my a terrible pain in my right shoulder, that won't go way, even with massages and an icy gel pack. What could this be?

Answers:

This is very common after surgery. When you are in surgery the anesthesiologist puts your neck in a hyper extended position {backwards} to put the intubation tube in your throat correctly. Many people complain of throat, shoulder and neck pain after surgery. Rest and take your pain medication. Pain medication is part of your healing.Call your Doctor if the pain continues.

Sounds like you pinched a muscle in your back which is easy to do when laying down a lot. I wouldn't ice anything that was tight, it will make the short thing shorter which can mean more pain or keeping it short longer. heat would be better and freeing up the muscles would be best and here's how to free up those muscles to get relief:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

It's called "referred pain" and it's from your surgery. Gall bladder pain often presents in the right shoulder. If you have good pain meds - try those. If it continues, call your doctor. Although your gall bladder is out, you might have some trouble in a bile duct.

If you don't have prescription pain meds, take Ibuprofen.

ya still have sum gas floatin around, that stuff goes everywhere, i had it in my shoulders too when mine was removed
