Length of hospital stay for a thyroidectomy?!

Question:

Length of hospital stay for a thyroidectomy?

Does anyone know how long a person has to be in the hospital for a thyroidectomy?

Answers:

As longs as no complications arise, probably overnight or possibly two nights. The main concern with this type of surgery is to monitor the patient for compromised airway after surgery. Any neck surgery can result in swelling so the doctors and nurses want to make sure that the postop patients can and will maintain their ability to breathe. Wish you the best of luck!
