Surgery, Knee Immoboilizer; Now What?!

Question:

Surgery, Knee Immoboilizer; Now What?

I had surgery on my knee to remove a tumor 2 weeks ago. I am stuck in a knee immoboilizer for 3 weeks. Then do they put me in a smaller brace? or do they just let me walk around normally? I'm asking b/c I dont know how theyll wean me back to bending my knee b/c I havent bent it in 3 wks. Just wondering. Thanks!

Answers:

Hopefully you are in physical therapy currently b/c you leg muscles are going to get real weak in the 6 wks after surgery. The knee immobilizer is usually meant to prevent your knee from collapsing while walking b/c your quad doesnt work right now. After 3 wks you should be allow to just walk without anything, but again, if you are not doing anything (physical therapy) to strengthen your quad then your knee will be very unstable and buckle on you.
