Ulnar Nerve Entrapment? How do I fix it?!

Question:

Ulnar Nerve Entrapment? How do I fix it?

Yesterday evening sometime my pink and half of my ring finger got tingly and get sort of numb. I couldn't apply pressure with these fingers whatsoever. I could hardly make a fist with that hand. It was getting ridiculous.

I read up on what I assume it is, which is Ulnar Nerve Entrapment. I still don't know exactly what it is, but I read that if I avoid bending my arm awkwardly or using the computer that it will get better. I'm 6"4 and I use the computer a lot, I'm slouched in a fairly uncomfortable chair and my arm is bent a fair bit. I also sleep on my arm a fair bit.

Anyways, I slept with a towel around my arm so as it wouldn't bend and I woke up being able to apply some pressure with my pinky and ring finger, but not near as much as my other hand can. I can clench a fist now, but when I do the nerve, or a muscle in my arm aches with pain, but I'm assuming that's because I've been forcing my arm into a fixed position a lot.

What else can I do to prevent this?

What should I know

Answers:

There are 2 things to look at in this quesion - prevention and treatment.
The ulnar nerve runs on the outside of the elbow (the "funny bone"), so if you're resting your elbow on something, aside from the arm bending you've already talked about, this will make it worse. One of the worse offenders is resting the left elbow on the car door while driving. Pressure and vibration together are a bad combination for nerves.
Ulnar nerve "entrapment" is a neuritis. NSAIDs are often used in conservative therapy. Naproxen twice a day with breakfast and dinner is an easy regimen.
