Foot and leg pain, achilles tendon area.?!

Question:

Foot and leg pain, achilles tendon area.?

I have a knot on the back ok my heel. I saw the doctor for it about 3 weeks ago and she said it could be tendonitis, sent me for xrays. I go back to see her in about two weeks. It hurts to walk, but yesterday it started hurting so bad when I walk I thought I had actually fractured a bone. The pain is in my inner lower leg above the tendon. I can still flex my foot up and down, and can also walk. I have noticed I am starting to walk on the side of my foot also. Anyone know what is going on? Thanks in advance.

Answers:

It sounds pretty much like you have Achilles tendinitis. The bump is called a pump bump (b/c women who wear high heeled pumps often get this) and is causes by extra bone being laid down at the site where your Achilles tendon attaches to your heel bone. The bump will be permanent unfortunately. The Achilles tendinitis does not have to be though. I would recommend at this point that taking care of this on your own is not the right thing to do. Going to see a physical/physio therapist would be best b/c they can educate you on stretches to do, show you how to properly ice down the area, and use other techniques to decrease the inflammation.
