Ruptured ear drum, infection, and fungal infection?!

Question:

Ruptured ear drum, infection, and fungal infection?

About a month ago my ear drum ruptured and was very infected, so the doctor prescribed antibiotics. The antibiotics didn't work, and the doctor I just recently went to said they also caused a fungal infection. He prescribed antibiotics (drops and a pill) and antifungal medicine (generic lamisil drops and a pill). The lamisil drops are not meant for the ear, and he said that they would hurt because my eardrum is still perforated. But they make my throat burn and turn it bright red. I'd call the doctor and ask, but I don't think he's open on Sunday. He said if I started to feel better I could stop taking the antibiotics, but I could not stop taking the antifungal medicine. Is something wrong here?

Answers:

It sounds like the drops are running into your throat, and are irritating it! I have ruptured both of my eardrums, but managed to not have the attendant fungal issues. I do know that fungal infections are slow to clear up, thus the extended time taking that med is normal. I wold suggest that you talk about the irritation of the throat.
