Toenails bruised/discolored/falling off?!

Question:

Toenails bruised/discolored/fallin... off?

Im 15. a couple of weeks ago my toes were feeling sore, i sort of ignored it. Then i noticed that the big toe on my left foot was bruised. I just decded to leave it and hope it just fell off and regrew. Then, it was summer and i have been playi ng tennis more. Now, the same toenail is yellow and falling off. Do i have fungus? Or could it be from my shoes being too small when playing tennis? Now the big toenail on the other foot has turned blue/black and is also falling off. Also, the second biggest toe on the right foot fell off, without any bruising or discoloration.
I am just very confused.. And do not want fungus =(
What's happening?
Please HElp!!

Answers:

The likely answer is that you're suffering from ‘black toenail syndrome'. This is well known to serious athletes and the cause is pretty simple. As you run, your toes repeatedly jam against the end of your shoe. This trauma leads to bruising under the nail, which, in turn, pushes it up and away from the toe. The result: Painful black nails that, sooner or later, drop off - and then grow back again. The cure lies in new shoes.

Go for some between a half and one size larger than your usual shoe size, and with plenty of width at the toes. If you do lots of running between games to keep up your fitness, check that your trainers are equally roomy. And avoid downhill running as this really punishes the nails. Although it can look alarming, ‘black toenail syndrome' is completely harmless. It's in no way connected to rather more serious problems in which bits of your anatomy turn black and drop off - these require an urgent visit to the hospital rather than the shoe shop.
