Weakness, parathesia in fingers going to wrist?!

Question:

Weakness, parathesia in fingers going to wrist?

First let me say that I am 17 years old and I'm fairly healthy. I spent a lot of time on the computer and I often sleep on my arm sometimes.

Today, I was in the video store renting a movie when all of a sudden my pinky and ring finger on my right hand started to feel numb and weak, it seems to extend from the middle of these two fingers to the middle of my forearm. It's hard to make a fist with this hand, or apply pressure with these two fingers. When gripping something with these two fingers I can hardly do it all. It's as if they're completely numb.

This has happened before, but it cleared up. What could it be?

Thank you.

Answers:

GREETINGS, for starters is that the hand you use on the mouse? There's a nerve behind the elbow called the ulnar nerve. When it becomes pinched on the outer arm it causes cubital tunnel syndrome cousin to carpal tunnel syndrome and cubital affects the pinky and ring finger the same as carpal affects the other 2 fingers and thumb. There is also the possibility of strained muscles on the outer arm that can cause the same feeling. Try to not use the computer for a day or so, see if it improves. Stretch your arm, keep your elbow straight, fingers spread apart and straight, hold arm over your head, count to10, drop and do again, do reps of 5 periodically during the day. Moist heat from mid arm to wrist will help relax any strained muscles, but try to keep your elbow perfectly straight, that allows the nerve to decompress.
