Answers:

You shouldn't be afraid at all. What is scarier is the thought of you NOT having the surgery, and going through life with one leg that doesn't work. Once bone is healed, even if it's not in the proper place, it is TEN TIMES harder to fix (not to mention that they have to re-break the bone).

It sounds like you are going to have a patellar tendon fixation...where they repair the tendons on the top and the bottom of the kneecap that hold it in place. It's actually a very short and simple procedure. You'll be put to sleep (I've had enough surgery to know that you won't feel ANYTHING), and once you're back home (I would estimate a day, maybe two), you will probably need a little bit of physical therapy to make sure that the muscles and tendons are re-stretched to optimal performance. I won't lie to you and tell you that you aren't going to be sore after the surgery, but they will give you medicine to help that. The physical therapy isn't going to be very much fun, either...but without it, the knee wouldn't heal right, even with the surgery!!

I promise you...in another month or two, you will be back to normal, and SO happy that you had the surgery. You'll be just fine, I promise you!
