This sounds like plantar fasciitis. The exercises will help....it's to stretch out your achilles tendon.

Icing is great....can you do it a couple of times a day? My foot doctor didn't say anything about heat, but you have to go by what your doc says. If you cannot stand up to do the stretches, try this:

Lay on your back on a firm surface (bed works too).
Extend your legs out straight (and I tend to do it up in the air so I can feel the stretch better).
Flex your feet (pull your toes towards you).
Hold the stretch. Do it in intervals.
I can't hold the stretch constantly, but it does help stretch out my achilles tendons.

The other thing you can do...if you have stairs at home
Stand with just your toes on the stairs (like you are going up the stairs)
If you let your heels sink down, the achilles tendons get stretched out.

Look for some heel pads/lifts/supports. I'm surprised the doc didn't give you anything to put in your shoes. You need shoes which will support your foot and heels (sandals are not a good choice for that). Most people seem to get over it pretty fast. Please treat it now so it doesn't hang on forever like mine has.

Good luck!!!
