Back pain that gets *worse* when spine is caused to rest in its most natural pos!

Question: Back pain that gets *worse* when spine is caused to rest in its most natural position?
My friend has problems with her back, which is weird, because she's only 17. After doing some research, I've discovered that part of that could be because those muscles aren't very fit. Today is one of the really bad days. She hurt it two days ago, and made it worse yesterday doing a lot of lifting and bending. I suggested she lay on her back with a folded blanket under her knees and a small support under her neck, because many sources seem to agree that it's best to rest the spine for a short period of time this way.
However, right now, she's relaxing in a banana chair with a pillow under her tailbone - and that's what's got me in a complete bewilderment. Can anyone cast some light on the sort of injury that favors a rounded banana chair, and becomes unbearable when actually supporting the spine?
What can we do to help ease the pain, besides pain killers?

Answers:

It could be a pinched nerve or a dislocated disk.

Give her a couple of days, letting her lay whichever way is most comfortable. The problem might correct itself. If not you could take her to the ER and get a muscle relaxer (this will help the pain) and then make an appointment with a chiropractor. If it is a disk out of place, he'll be able to pop it back in safely.

She needs to be aware that if it is a slipped disk, she'll need to be careful from now on - once a disk goes out, it becomes easier to go out again.

Has she been checked for scoliosis? It may be that!
