Is it normal for one ear to produce a lot more ear wax than the other?!

Question:

Is it normal for one ear to produce a lot more ear wax than the other?

Seriously, one of my ears is like a bee hive.

Answers:

Most of the time, each ear produces similar amount of wax.

However, the rate of wax removal is different sometimes. Since our ear canal is actually crooked, and the degree of crookedness varies, sometimes wax can build up more in one ear than the other.

A lot of times, when we take shower, water enters the ear and clean the ear wax. However, if the curve is too tight, either water can not get in, or wax can not get out. Pulling your ear upward and backward can help straighten it out.

If not, using any oil will help dissolve. Personally, I usually recommend baby oil, since it smells good. Wax is oil based, so it will dissolve in any type of oil. Just position yourself to keep that ear pointing upward, fill the ear all the way up while again pulling it upward and backward, then let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes while you sort of try to mix it. Do it 2-3 times a day when needed. Sometimes those ear wax removal kit can help.

Never use Q-tip. 2 things happens with Q-tip. Either you can poke a hole in your ear drum, which will require surgery. Or you can further pack that wax much tighter and make it more difficult to remove.

All else fails, go see your doctor regularly to have it power washed out.
