Do I have a Torn ligament in my thumb?????!!!!!!?!

Question: Do I have a Torn ligament in my thumb?????!!!!!!?
Ok I broke my thumb 7 and a half weeks ago and my hand still hurts. I got my cast off on February 28th and they said it's still broken. They didn't give me another cast or anything. Here are my symptoms.
*Tingling
*Swelling
*Bruising
*Throbing
*Coldness
*Numbness
*Unable to move index and thumb without pain

Is there a torn ligament? (your opinion)

If yes what would the doctors do for it?

Answers:

It sounds like you have nerve damage more than anything. I work with the hand team on my ward and they do tendon repairs to hands. You may need some k-wire put into your thumb to keep it aligned, but as you can't move your thumb and index finger it's definately nerve damage. You can easily get this repaired under a local anaesthetic or an auxillary block which they commonly do at my work. They inject anaesthetic into the nerve under your armpit and it freezes the whole arm so you cannot feel ANYTHING at all, not even lift it so it's pain free procedure. Go back to your GP because you will need surgery if he won't listen then you need to go to A + E, you will be seen by a hand co-ordinator most likely followed by a registrar that will do these procedures day in and day out.
