My jaw pops out of place?!

Question:

My jaw pops out of place?

I had 4 dental procedures in less than a month, and now whenever I open my mouth really wide, it seems like my jaw is popping out of place, and then back in when I close it. What is wrong with it?

Answers:

Well chronic issues with the joint is refered to as TMJ. If you continue to pop the joint it will wear and cause problems. Since it seems that it popped not from clenching, grinding or other issues, but from 4 procedures in a month - you could make an appointment with a chiropractor who can gently ease it back into place. I have a chronic issue and my chiropractor has to adjust mine every few months. But for you 1 or 2 adjustments will probably get it. Also, next time you see your dentist let him/her know. They can check your bite to make sure its not off and pushing the TM joint out of place and will also note your chart so when you are having procedures done in the future they will not space them so close together and will allow you to break every 15 minutes to close your mouth for a minute.
