Appendicitis can be a dull recurrent ache, that can be mistaken for gas pains, to pain so bad it's incapacitating. I have known two adults who had their appendices burst before getting treatment. It is always good to have it checked if there is a chance. One of the people left her appendix ruptured and untreated and the infection spread throughout her abdomen. The doctors had to remove a lot of bowel and other organs due to infection. Now she has lupus and rheumatoid arthritis due to lack of early intervention. She didn't have insurance. Now she's on permanent disability and is always ill.
It's better to feel a little dumb and pay for a doctor visit you didn't need than not go and end up in the hospital with a life-threatening problem.
