Question:

Is ther any one that has gone through an acl reconstruction with a Allograft (cadaver).?

what type of screws did you have?
How do you feel now?
Is your Knee stronger than it was before?
Do you have the same speed that you did before?
How long will it take until i can at least walk on my knee?
Can you tell me about your experience?
Any other information will be very valuable to me?
I have torn my acl in my left leg almost 2 months ago and right now my leg is normal with full range of motion.I'm starting to wonder if its really torn. It dosen't feel unstable but it did buckle about a week after the injury. I feel like I can go play basketball again with full speed but I'm afraid that I will loose al my progress in my leg if it gets hurt.
My knee just dosen't feel like such a bad injury happened.
Do you think that maybe swelling caused my doctor to make a wrong diagnosis on my MRI sheet?

Answers:

After the swelling goes down it is normal to feel like nothing is wrong with the knee. That doesnt mean the doc diagnosed you wrong. Torn ACL's are easy to see on MRI despite swelling. DO NOT play basketball without an ACL in your knee b/c you have an unstable knee and you risk very serious damage to your knee (such as dislocation and eventual amputation).
The strongest graft you can have is a patella tendon autograft. Autografts are from your body, allografts are from a cadaver. Having a hamstring autograft is less painful than patella tendon autograft but usually not as strong. Even if you feel like your knee is normal at 1 month after surgery IT IS NOT. The graft needs at least 2 months to take. If you do things you are not supposed to do you will stretch out the graft (or worse tear it again) and then you will be left with a useless ACL graft.
