Do I need stiches for a face gash?

My friend and I were wrestling and we butted heads and caused my skin to open up about 1 inch across by my eye but its not deep. do i need stiches or can i just use bflys to patch it up?

Answers:

Depends. If it is deep, and you are extremely good looking, and you make your living from your beautiful face, yes, get a plastic surgeon to repair your face. If it is a minor injury, and it won't affect your ability to earn a living, or star in movies, it is probably alright to leave it be, Butterfly's or simple bandaids will probably suffice. A bit of Over-the-Counter antibiotic ointment would also be a good idea.

Almost all physicians can sew it up, but so can almost all woman, and many men. It is a simple thing to sew-up a "break in the skin", but if is important to do it right, by all means go see a plastic surgeon. They are experts at closing wounds and almost assure you that you will have the least possible scar.

Also, I'm guessing, by your description, that the tear is in the area of your eyebrow, due to the prominence of the bone above the eye. The Eyebrow will conceal most scars. I'm also thinking that almost all physicians will have their nurse "shave the area" prior to sutures. The last thing you will want with a beautiful face is shaved-off eye-brows. The outer third probably will never grow back.

Take it like a man, put a Butterfly, or a piece of tape, or a bandaid on it, wait a while before soaking it in the shower or tub, and it will heal very fast. Nothing much on the human body has such a good blood supply as your face/head. The other place with lots of blood flow is "unmentionable" on this website.

Good luck. Don't sweat the small stuff. By the way, what does your mother and/or girlfriend say about it? Consider doing the opposite of what they recommend. By the way, chances of getting an infection on your head/face are very slim. Due to the same exceptional blood flow to this area. Not many bacteria can live and fight against your amazing immune system in the facial area, unless of course, you are "immune system" compromised.
