Any health risks using Melatonin?!

Question:

Any health risks using Melatonin?

Lots of my co-workers are using this product because we are shift workers. Is there any risk factors using this? Can it be addictive? It says not to use for more than 4 weeks.

Answers:

My husband was concerned when I started to use melatonin to help me sleep in the day while I worked the night shift. So I did a little research online and discovered that melatonin is what your brain naturally secretes to make you feel sleepy. I also read that in studies, they gave the patients doses of the medication that was more that 100 times the dose recommended on the bottle and it had no bad effect on the people. The only bad side effect is that some people suffered nightmares. That's what happens to me. I have really bad dreams when I take it. Other than that, there are no side effects... no prolonged sleepieness, no risk of overdose.
