Bad constipation problem?!

Question: Bad constipation problem?
For a very long time now I've had to take Morphine alongside ALOT of other medication for a chronic pain issue. I've suffered from constipation because of this but at the moment it's really bad. My stomach looks like a massive balloon and it's been 8 days since I went for a good bowel movement. I'm not sure what to do. I'm taking 4 senna tablets a day. Any ideas guys? :( xxxxx

Start taking 5 of the senna tablets, and they should be the ones that also contain stool softener. (This is a suggestion from my pain doc.) Get Miralax or the generic equivalent, which is much cheaper. This is not precisely a laxative but it keeps you going. You can take it according to the instrux, even along with the senna. It's a powder that makes a clear liquid when mixed with water and it is not unpleasant, has no taste but you can add a little juice. Follow the usual other things like drinking plenty of water, eating veggies and fruits, and above all, most important, if your pain permits, you must get exercise, even if it's just walking around and is not strenuous. Avoid constipation causing stuff like caffeine and overly processed goods. Eat a lot of brown rice. Another remedy that can be tried is Triphala, a tablet (this is from traditional medicine of India) made of a fruit. But don't just keep piling on all these pills and powders, try the Triphala (pr psillium powder) instead of the senna if you find it's not working.
You really should get the advice of your pain doctor if it's been 8 days.

the morphine is what is constipating you. you need to eat more fruits and veggies and at this point you probably need to consider an enema to get rid of the constipated stool that is in you now. THEN, drink lots of water which will help the stool stay softer and maybe ask the doctor who prescribed the morphine for something stronger than the senna. your body gets used to some laxatives so you may need to try something else. you can get a fleets enema over the counter to help rid you of what is in you now. something like Fibersource tablets that you chew is good for increased fiber.

Jim , I have been on Norco , for several years , due to unsuccessful surgeries , I have " terminal " constipation. I found that drinking lots of water helps , at least 6 glasses a day , not soda , not tea . When it is at " critical " status , I drink a bottle called " citrate of magnesia " , you can get it at any drug store ( it looks like a small bottle of soda ) , usually on the bottom shelf of the laxative section , within 8 hours , -- success

Stop the senna and go to a chemist (UK) and buy Glycerin suppositories. One up the bum, stay by the toilet and it will be gone in 20 minutes. It will not give you tummy cramps. These are often used in hospitals after operations, and I have used them myself.
Happy pooing.

Eat moar fruits. And drink prune juice, your bowels will go wild if you drink a gallon of this. Or pineapple juice.

2-4 teaspoons of epsom salts , dissolved in a glass of warm water
