What is the sensation on the sides of one's neck right when you start eating something?

It hurts and it seems that the sides of the neck get tense.

It's not TMJ...it is this feeling that runs down the sides of the neck starting from behind the jaw/below the ears. I know other people that get it too...i just want to know what it is called.

It could be TMJ. Does it pop or lock. Do you grind your teeth. If so it may be it.
