Can too many pills cause heartbeat to be faster?!

Question: Can too many pills cause heartbeat to be faster?
This week my doctor prescribed me nortriptyline to help me sleep. I also take other pills. I am suppossed to take one 25mg pill before i go to bed. my other pills that I take i take 4 before i go to bed. Last night i accidently mixed up my pills and took 4 nortriptyline pills. I slept most of the day today and feel so groggy and every once in a while my heart feels like it is beating really fast. could this be a result me accidently takeing too many pills?

Answers:

Well,it could be a side effect from taking too much of this particular medication.I suggest you sleep it off, rest, and make sure you eat properly, and wait until you no longer have these ill effects(side effects) from this medication.I wouldn't take another dose tonight if your still feeling this way.Try to wait and see if you can fall asleep on your own without the sleep aid(nortriptyline),and hopefully the following night you'll be able to continue your regular dose.
And,if your still having this side effect for longer than another 12 hours or so...you should see your doctor or even go to the emergency room just to be on the safe side.
Take care and I hope you start feeling better soon.
