What is the difference between tendonitis and tendinitis, if any?!

Question:

What is the difference between tendonitis and tendinitis, if any?

Or is it a case of one or the other being misspelled and then propagated through laziness?

Personally I would disagree with tendonitis being the 'newer' spelling as some authorities list it as being the 'older' spelling which would infer the predominant use being due to the US medical arena being the predominant 'authority' and that most computer spellcheckers spell it tendinitis...

Answers:

It's the spelling.

They both refer to the inflammation of tendons.

It is a common mistake to spell it tendonitis, because it affects the tendons,so most patients will spell it that way. However, the correct way of spelling it is actually tendinitis.
