Ice or heat my knee during dance?!

Question:

Ice or heat my knee during dance?

i have a lot of problems with my injured knee, and although i shouldnt be dancing the recital is this weekend and i have 6 shows. normally ice it to help stop swelling, but if ice it between dances it might get stiff. should i use heat instead?

Answers:

Until then, you can do some alternating of ice packs and very light heat to stimulate cicrculaton.

You have to be careful the heat does not provoke swelling.

I think you want your knee iced, but the muscles warm between performances, then warm it some before you begin.

Its a tough call, as you may give yourself a worse injury. If its a serious injury now, you can't dance in 2 days.

Rest it thoroughly until the morning before. Then try a good warmup. amd carefully test it in the more difficult parts of your routine. If it can tolerate it, you'll be able to try to perform with some confidence. But If you can't dance in the warmup, you will collapse on stage. You'll need to back out knowing it just is not possible.
