Can someone help me with this one? Health UK?!

Question:

Can someone help me with this one? Health UK?

My nan is in an NHS hospital and I am not happy with her care. I do not have private health care and neither does she.

Can i get her into emergency private health care now and be billed for it later? How does this work and how do i go about it?

Answers:

This is a really difficult situation.
Firstly, it depends on what is wrong with your nan. Private hospitals are not equipped or staffed to look after acutely ill people. They tend to focus more on the surgical side of healthcare.
Therefore, what I suggest is you look at the reasons why you are not happy with the standard of her care. Is it the cleanliness of the ward, the attitude of the staff or the doctors caring for her? My advice would be to make an appointment to speak to the Modern Matron. There is one attached to every ward, and it is their job to ensure that the care is of a high standard, so they would be your first port of call.
Write down everything you are not happy with , so when you do meet you don't forget anything. If you still can't resolve it, you can ask for your nan to be moved to another ward, but if its a small hospital, there may not be another ward that can offer specialist treatment for her, if thats what she needs.
I wish you all the very best of luck, and if you really can't resolve it, I suggest you go to the local media, as this (sadly) usually works in making hospitals sit up and take notice.
