Can these be removed safely and relatively pain free from home or do I always have to go to the doctor?

I've answered this before, but the question comes up a lot.
A doctor will simply take a pair of sharp scissors and trim them off at skin level. It pinches, but it's not that bad. The real problem with cutting them off is that they bleed so much. Other docs will freeze them or burn them off with a hyfrecator - a machine that singes the skin with electricity.
I'm not telling YOU to do this, but I remove my own skin tags at home with tiny, sharp, clean scissors and use some stick deodorant on a swab to stop the bleeding. It's virtually the same thing that a doctor would do - but I have to tell you that I was trained by a dermatologist and I can take the pain. :)
