Foot pain/cramps from competitive swimming?!

Question:

Foot pain/cramps from competitive swimming?

I have horrible foot cramps in the arch of my foot. I think it is from swimming competitively. It feels like someone is ripping out my muscle and it hurts to flex it. I also get the feeling that i burned the bottom of my feet (which could have happend from walking on the hot pavement but its never been this bad). It hurts to walk barefoot on my carpet. i put lots of lotion on them and then socks and sleep like that and i sometimes feels better in the morning but it soon comes back. Any ideas of what it is or even how to get rid of them? For the cramping, rolling my foot on the handle/centerof a dumb bell kind of works, but i cant take a dumb bell to swim meets. Any ideas?? i have a swim meet tonight! Please help!

Answers:

My daughter had the same problem.

She got an athletic rubber band and put the top of her foot in it and held the other end taunt with her hand. She had to stretch pulling the band tight several times :(20 x ) at least 3 x a day. Ask you swim coach or trainer about other physical therapy techniques you could use.

My daughter did bring her band to the meets so she could stay flexible between races.
