Pain on left side of neck?!

Question:

Pain on left side of neck?

It feels almost sharp, like it would when you tear a retenaculum, and it feels like things are popping out of my neck, but only when i move my head and jaw forward and up. Any clue as to what it is?

There is no refered pain to anywhere in my body, just pain when I do that range of motion and throbbing/aching pain when I don't. The injury was acute but I don't know how I did it.

It feels like a few tendons or something. I'm an Athletic Trainer myself and I have no idea what this is. It feels like a muscle injury but I'm not sure.

Answers:

If it is pretty much directly below your ears, it could be your lymph nodes swinging into action . . . assuming you didn't do any phsycial damage.

Your lymph nodes contain lymphocytes which may be fighting a virus or bacteria right now. It usually feels very tender to the touch and almost bulging out the side of the neck below the ears.

That's the only thing I can think of. Hope that helps.
