What to do when stung by coral?!

Question:

What to do when stung by coral?

i was snorkeling in cancun mexico a week ago and got stung by some coral and after rubbing ice on my leg and hand the pain finally went away...a week later (this morning) i woke up itching like CRAZY!! i'm scratching to the point that i feel like i'm tearing up my skin! is this normal? i've never gotten stung b4 and no idea what to do! HELP!

Answers:

Some hydrocortizone or lamisil should help more that Benadryl. You might even develop some "welts". Be careful not to "pop" anything. This will only expose you to a greater risk of infection. If it looks "angry" then you may have an infection already. You can use a warm moist towel to help with any swelling but it won't do much for the pain. Use cold ones for that. If the ice helps then keep using it but you still need to see a doctor.

Good Luck!
