Question:

I don´t know how I did it-have you ever pulled back muscles just sitting at your computer?

Earlier today, I was just sitting at my computer, and moved a little bit, and pulled muscles in my upper right side of my back. Now the pain radiate up through my right shoulder.
Have you ever had this happen, how did you get relief, and when will the pain stop? OUCH!

Answers:

I'd guess that you have pinched a nerve.

Sitting is actually hard on your back, especially for long periods of time. I used to have problems a lot more often but know I try to break up my work day and make sure that I just move around. I also have learned to pay closer attention to my posture when working since bad posture can create a lot of stress on joints. Someone else mentioned being hunched over - that's a killer for sure.

For now you can take some over the counter anti-inflammatory meds, like simple aspirin. Also, ice the area that hurts. And try laying on your back, on a flat hard surface with your knees bent (or your lower legs on a chair and knees bent at a 90 degree angle) and relaxing.

A chiropractors will help you if you can afford one or if you have coverage through your work.

Hope you feel better soon.
